Notes:
1964 Jaguar Series One E Type Convertible.
The XKE was a sensation when first introduced to the world in 1961, these cars truly were Grace, Pace and Style at an affordably price. With a 3.8 straight six engine, triple SU carbs, four wheel disc brakes, independent rear suspension and a top speed of 150 MPH, Jaguar truly had made an iconic car. This car is amongst the last of the 3.8 cars, numbers matching in Opalescent Silver grey ( looks Gunmetal) with Red, including Heritage certificate showing this is how it left the factory.
Knowing these words are used all too often - incorrectly -in the collector car world, we say this with absolute confidence, this is truly a professionally restored concours condition car; it is judged the best in its class whenever it enters a show, unfortunately, it does not get to as many shows as the owner would like, due to the size of his car collection and travel schedule. The restoration was done seven years ago, but you would never know it by looking at the car. This was a restoration at a level that is very rarely seen; the owner spent at the time in the region of $180,000, including $10,000 on just nuts and bolts, making sure everything was correct, when you look at this Jaguar you truly can see where and how where this money was spent. The underside just further confirms the quality of this exceptional car.
From 1961 to 1964, there were only 7,828 Series One roadsters produced in both Left and Right hand drive configuration and overall in the 13 years of E type production there were less than 73,000 of all models and configurations. Series Ones are the purists love and have none of the smog issues or 5 MPH issues of later models brought into the USA, they are consistently the most expensive at both auction and private sale due to the very clean lines of the original model.
We do not know of a better color combination for what the English called a true "crumpet car"; this was the car of the swinging sixties, major sports and screen stars loved them, and eligible bachelors could not be without one...certainly, Austin Powers has assured us of that in the last few years. The greatest compliment ever given to an XKE was made by non other than Enzo Ferrari, while we cannot guarantee the exact quote (time has eroded that) the sentiment was simple "If Jaguar only made 50 of these, they would be the most expensive car in the world."
While there is much more to be said about this amazing car, seeing it and judging it against anything else out there is the only true way for any prospective owner to see for themselves. We encourage you to come and see what an unbelievably detailed restoration done to the very highest standards looks like.
If you want the best, you will not be disappointed. |
